A bit about Ludlow
In the centre of the town you will find Ludlow Castle. It was fought over many times and was where Prince Arthur died. He was the older brother of Henry Tudor who was destined to become Henry VIII, marry six times, and change British history forever.
Much of Ludlow has remained unchanged for hundreds of years and has around 500 listed buildings in all.
This picture was painted on king Street, looking to Broad Street with the Buttercross, built in 1743–1746, in the background.
” Ludlow….is probably the loveliest town in England with its hill of Georgian houses ascending from the river Teme to the great tower of the cross-shaped church, rising behind a classic market building.” – John Betjeman, 1943

I was raised close to Ludlow. And know the town very well. But it only very recently that I ascended the narrow stone staircase to the summit of St. Laurence’s. Which is the largest church in England.
Ah thanks for the feedback, Bruce. I only visited in between lockdowns for the first time.
A lovely town.
